S.T.E.A.M. Saturday is a monthly program designed to use S.T.E.A.M. principles (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) to make history a fun and tangible experience for visitors of all ages. S.T.E.A.M. Saturday is designed to use S.T.E.A.M. practices to help museum visitors engage with the subject at hand. S.T.E.A.M Saturday activities like creating memory jugs, dissecting buffalo chips, and excavating a cookie to learn about archaeological techniques, while exploring how these activities relate to their community's local history.

Time Travel Summer Camp engages local children between the ages of 8-12 years old with a fun, safe learning environment each summer. In the past, we have held this summer camp for one week a year, but we would like to expand it by adding more weeks so that we can serve more children in our area. The summer camp explores different time periods in our local history every year. In the past, children have “traveled” to the time of the Cavalry soldiers and then into the trenches of WWI where they learned about the sacrifices made by soldiers and civilians during the Great War. Activities included making hardtack and trench cake, learning popular dances at the times of these conflicts including the Virginia Reel and the Charleston, and creating their own Victory Garden they were able to take home with them. In the last year, we have also started including a scholarship program for deserving children whose families could not otherwise afford the cost of a summer camp experience.
